Ali with Annie and Brady in the snow

Welcome to Our Site

Welcome to Filly Tracks - my personal horse adventure blog! Here I post about most things horse related, but really focus on the horse's I have the pleasure of working with on a regular basis, helping me to keep track of their progress, and also my progress as a trainer. I consider myself a trainer in training with a goal of having my career be training horses someday. Currently, I have the pleasure of working with Annie, a 2004 haflinger mare, Brady, a 2009 purebred Irish draught and Angel, a 2006 rescue appaloosa pony. We do some natural horsemanship training but as the horse's advance they are moved more into straightness training which has fundamentals based on academic dressage with a focus on a healthy horse - physically and mentally.

I hope you enjoy following our progress! :)

Back to the basics…

Posted by Ali on April 9, 2012

I got out to the barn again today, which was very nice. I wasn’t sure what to do with them… I guess I never really have a plan. I have ideas of what I want to try or do, but those are always subjective to each horses’ mood and how things go that day… I [...]

Finally back to the barn!

Posted by Ali on April 8, 2012

School has kicked into high gear since returning and needless to say, for me it has been an adjustment. Even just 1 week of living the barn life made me want it even more… All in time I keep telling myself. So, I didn’t get out there for 2 weeks! Ugh! And I could tell… [...]

Annie’s heat cycle is over! So is spring break…

Posted by Ali on March 24, 2012

It’s been a fabulous spring break! Lots of horse time and the rest of the time was spent working in our yard at our new house. In my last time out to the barn for spring break we brought a visitor – a friend from school to meet the horses and see what we do [...]

Brady Ground Work, 3/20/12 from Filly Tracks & Happyloosas on Vimeo. I like farrier days… Our farrier is pretty amazing and I usually spend almost all day at the barn on farrier days. Today was no different. So… the farrier report… Brady was first up for the farrier. He did good – he never does [...]

Yes! Day 3 – third day at the barn in a row! And it was awesome… I could do this every day Today we went out with a goal – Angel needed a bath. We didn’t get to it Saturday, it was getting too late in the day. The temps are still a bit chilli [...]

The doors are open and Annie is in heat!

Posted by Ali on March 16, 2012

Since the weather has warmed up in the past week our barn has opened the arena doors! It’s very nice, lots of natural light, a breeze now and then and all the distractions! Haha. I know it’s good for the horses, but it will take a few times for Annie to get used to the [...]

My first training report…

Posted by Ali on March 8, 2012

Ok, my first official training report for the afternoon/evening of March 8, 2012. I worked with Angel and Annie and started with Angel. Angel usually has more energy and depending on the temps, may need cooled down so I usually start with her. I also just started Angel in straightness training, and it can be [...]

Posted by Ali on March 8, 2012

It’s been a while.. again, haha. Today I received a comment on a previous post I wrote this year which was a big revelation for me – What I want to do… I’m glad I got this comment, it was very nice, and also reminded me of what my goals are for this year. It’s [...]

See – dressage is for every hors… er, mule?

Posted by Ali on January 20, 2012

I saw this video on facebook and thought it was pretty awesome… So many people think it’s a small portion of horses that can do, or should do dressage, and those groups are stereotypically dressage competitors and eventers. The thing is, that is sooooo not the case! Every person and horse should experience some dressage [...]
