The Connemara Pony originated from western Ireland, where the harsh weather conditions and rough terrain helped create a hardy, sturdy working pony. What other breeds the Connemara pony is descendant from isn’t set in stone. It is thought to have originated from the Irish Hobbys, or the Scandinavian ponies introduced by the Vikings. However, it is thought that Spanish horses were set lose from the Spanish Armada [...]

That’s right! We did our name drawing for #989 who was pulled from Camelot about a month ago! She will no longer be referred to by hip number! What an exciting step in this fillies new life! Sophia was saved from the Camelot auction on September 8, 2010 by Anouk Busch/Horse Rescue United. Anouk hadn’t planned on attending the auction that evening, but Fox Ridge Farm had a missing horse, so Anouk went to the auction to see if their horse turned up there. I was (and still kind of am) hesitant to use contact on the bit when working with horses. I’ve seen it misused so much that I didn’t (and still don’t) want to be someone who abuses the contact. It’s been about a month since I’ve been using more contact with Annie. However, I still start and end our rides on a loose rein… This wasn’t advice I was given at the lesson [...]

Meet this beautiful black mare, Lady! Lady was originally saved from an auction and was very close to heading to slaughter! She was saved by Horse Rescue United and adopted with her friend, Carol, a TB mare. Unfortunately, Lady ran into some health problems and is now only suitable as a companion horse. The family that originally adopted her adopted another horse that was ridable, and Lady was very unhappy [...]

What does the word reputable mean to you? What is a reputable rescue in your eyes? You, the fans, observers, bystanders, you are the reason why rescues can function between donations, contributing to fundraisers, cross posting on social media sites like facebook and twitter, so [...]

I’ve heard people talk about spurs… Some love them, some hate them… The truth is, any piece of equipment in the wrong hands is dangerous – including spurs. Some spurs are extremely sharp and are capable of cutting the horses skin if not used properly! However, properly used spurs can help you gain fine control over every part of your horse’s body, helping your connection and communication. Spurs, in [...]

This is Sierra… and wow, what presence she has! You will know when Sierra is around.. She seems to just have an essence about her. Sierra is an 8 year old thoroughbred mare standing at 16hh, and available free to an approved home through HRU (Horse Rescue United). Don’t let her age steer you away. This girl has plenty of energy and has plenty of great years ahead of her! Sierra has a lot of spirit and would be best suited [...]
